2012 Pub Night Memories

It's my tradition at the end of January to put up a slideshow of happy photos from the previous year of friends drinking beer.  You can call me cranky for not posting a nostalgic post at the end of December, or maybe I just need to wait until the days get longer before I can get up the motivation to put something together.  Anyway, despite a reduced blogging output in 2012, I did have a few pictures worth sharing lurking around the hard drive.  Some of them are ridiculously blurry, but capture an interesting enough occasion that I couldn't leave them out.

2012 was not a great year for me.  It wasn't terrible, but there were a lot of challenging times, so I'm not going to jinx 2013 by making a sappy "come what may" wish like I did last year.  Onward!

2011 Pub Night Memories

Last year by accident I didn't reminisce about the previous year until the end of January. I enjoyed that month's delay so much that I'm going to make it a tradition. Now that you've had a breather from all the looking back, looking forward, and the Top 7 Top 5 Lists, it's time to take a walk down memory card lane. 2010 Pub Night Memories

Last year for some filler at the end of the year I put up a slideshow with a lot of beery photos that never made it into It's Pub Night during 2009. I thought I would do the same thing this year, but in the whirlwind of holiday activity/depression nothing ever happened. Well, better late than never. Here are some photographic highlights of 2010, to illustrate what a good time we have here in Beervana.



The photo of Don Younger holding the bronze rubber chicken isn't an afterthought -- it brought a smile to my face and was immediately included as I put the slideshow together Friday night, before I knew anything about his hospitalization.  It shows what a presence the man is, in sickness and in health.

I hope that in 2011 I get to take as many pictures of Angelo taking pictures as I did in 2010.

Beer Bottle Hidden Picture Puzzle

There were three large bins of broken bottles sitting by the bottle-return station at the 39th and Hawthorne Fred Meyers a few days ago.  I snapped a couple of cellphone pictures on a whim, in case they would come in handy to illustrate some kind of ecological or penny-pinching rant I might go on.

The nearly intact Full Sail bottle pinned down this particular shot, but as I looked at it today I was kind of astounded at the large percentage of these bottles that once held good beer.  Without trying too hard, I can spot 3 different Deschutes labels, 2 Widmers, a Spaten, a Hales, and a New Belgium, in addition to the Full Sail bottle.  It kind of illustrates what a great market Portland is for quality beer, and how we tend to drink pretty locally.

2009 Pub Night Memories

Despite the fact that I recently won a Worst Photograph prize, I'd like to wind up the year with a slideshow of Pub Night memories. These are pictures I took during 2009 that didn't make it into a blog post. Even so, they tell a story of camaraderie that illustrates what I love about Portland and the beer-obsessed people that congregate here.
